Nicola Evangelisti was born in Bologna (Italy) in 1964, he studied Composition and Band Instrumentation in the Conservatory of his town. Then he completed his formation at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena and at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome with Franco Donatoni.

He won many International Awards like Belveglio ('87), Biennale ’88 for Mediterranean Europe, “Alfredo Casella” (Siena '93), “Nuove Sincronie” (Milano '95), III Concurso Internacional de Composición Pianística “Manuel Valcárcel” (Santander - Spain '99), “ICOMS 2001” (Torino), “G. Contilli” for Symphonic Orchestra ('01), “Togni” (Brescia '08).

His music has been played by important ensembles like Österreichisches Ensemble für Neue Musik, Octandre, Nuove Sincronie, Theater Winter Ensemble, Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana, FontanaMIXensemble, ECQuartett, Dedalo Ensemble, PRIME Recorder ensemble, ExNovoEnsemble,  and by musicians like James Clapperton, Antonio Politano, Leonel Morales, Giuseppe Fausto Modugno, Yoichi Sugijama, Paolo De Gaspari, Marco Ignoti, Sebastiano Severi. 

His compositions are present in important music production centres like those in Milan (MilanoMusica), Turin, Florence (FabbricaEuropa), Venice (Biennale Musica 2009, Fondazione Giorgio Cini "Laboratorioarazzi 2010", Teatro La Fenice), Bologna (Teatro Comunale, DMS, Accademia Filarmonica, Exitime), Festival Internacional de Santander, Tokyo, Santa Barbara University (USA), Drammen (Norway), Ghent (Belgium), Amsterdam, Lausanne, Geneve, Zurich, Köln, Leipzig, Augsburg, Strasbourg,  Greifswald, Bremen, Assisi.

Interested in the computer-assisted composition and in the live use of electronics, he collaborated to the creation of the group PRISMA (Pedagogia e Ricerca Internazionale sui Sistemi Musicali Assistiti da computer) in 2001, together with other European composers and with the support of IRCAM, and he collaborated with Centro Tempo Reale in Florence, too.

He has taken part in the artistic productions of the FontanaMIXensemble since 2002 as a composer and an assistant director.

He teaches Composition in the conservatory “F. Venezze” in Rovigo (Italy).
